i-MODE Product Support Engineer - 'Step into 3G'No 3G experience required - all training given!Since its introduction in February 1999 i-mode has become the world's largest wireless Internet service with more than 35million subscribers. Its mobile computing service enables users to access telephone banking, make airline reservations,conduct stock transactions, send and receive e-mail, play games, access weather reports and have access to the Internet.It's the first and most popular Wireless Data Tech, pre-dating 3G!This is your opportunity to get cross training into a technology which pre-dates, outperforms and has more subscribersglobally than any other wireless data transport system. EU-launch is imminent and it's sure to make major impact overhere!Idealpeople are working with the pioneering global outfit behind the launch and delivery of I-MODE systems, and arelooking for capable individuals who can cross-train successfully in this leading edge technology.The role itself involves supporting a 'Carrier Grade' messaging infrastructure in a Solaris environment on a 24/7 basis,which means troubleshooting, diagnosing issues, documenting solutions, delivering hot-fixes, liasing with customers inthe UK and operations in Japan. These high profile engineering positions means that the buck stops with you in respect ofthe availability of a system supporting tens/hundreds of thousands (Maybe millions!) of subscribers, therefore yourexperience to date should have been gained in a similar 24/7/365, "Production" or "High Availability" environment.So what are we looking for?At least 3 years of commercial work experience in a Clustered Sun Architecture environment, ideally in a SystemsAdministration or Support capacity.Strong scripting skills (UNIX Shell, Java or Perl) for complex systems automation and monitoring tasksDeep network troubleshooting experience, ideally in on or all of - IPV6, IMAP, POP3, HTTP, SNMP, SMTP, TCP/IP, IPSecA good knowledge of hardware, capacity to learn and a desire to be trained in RNC/RF or UTRAN technologiesSunONE Messaging Service would be ideal.Technical degree or Solaris Certification preferred.Although not essential, any Mobile Operator, 3G, GSM, WAP/WML, Handset, Wireless, GPRS, UMTS, RNC, RF or UTRAN Experiencewould be a plus.Please note that experience with Clusters is non-negotiable, and candidates without this experience will be discounted.This role will be based in Reading, Berkshire, and will involve occasional travel to the Far East.These roles will not be available for long! We are also recruiting for the same role again in Dublin.
